HDFC NRI account opening online procedure
NRI (Non-Resident Indian) bank account basically divided in two types
1) NRE – Non-Resident External
2) NRO- Non-Resident Ordinary
HDFC is largest private sector bank in India and HDFC bank provides good foreign transaction benefits to its customers
So it’s beneficial to open online NRI/NRO bank account in HDFC bank.
If you are NRI or living outside of India for Job then you are eligible to open NRI/NRO account in HDFC bank.
In my case I’m in china, it doesn't matter in which country you are! You just need to apply online at HDFC bank NRI portal.
Below is the step by step procedure for opening online NRI bank account in HDFC bank.
1) Confirm that you have all necessary documents before apply
2) Documents are as below
3) Apply on official NRI portal of HDFC bank
4) Support team will contact you on phone no which you provided while filling application form
5) Print the application form
6) Sign on pages where applicant signature is mentioned
7) Support team will guide you for courier pick up (In my case it was DHL ) from your destination country. Please note this- courier pick up of your documents are free of charge, you don't need to pay for it.
8) Please wait for confirmation on mail.
9) HDFC bank will update you about your application confirmation within 15days, and application kit will be send on Indian address OR destination country address (It depends on you, where you want?).
10) Application kit contains , welcome letter from HDFC bank NRI account team, NRE account ATM, NRO account ATM, NRE account cheque book, NRO account cheque book, Internet banking pin, information brochures.
11) For internet banking you will need to open online net banking portal of HDFC bank.
12) Log in with your customer ID and internet pin. You can transfer money or manage account online from your destination country.
Congratulations you have done all procedure, now you have both type of NRI account (NRE & NRO)

NRE – Non-Resident External
In this account you can only deposit foreign currency, you cannot deposit Indian currency in this account. Use this account to transfer foreign currency to your home from destination country
NRO- Non-Resident Ordinary
In this account you can deposit Indian currency; foreign currency should not be deposited in this account. Basically this account is for to keep your Indian financial transaction in this bank account while you are out of India.
